Dayton, OH— On August 25, ABET Expert Joseph “Jay” Thomas passed away at the age of 79.
Thomas served as an ABET Program Evaluator and Team Chair on over two dozen visits from 1988–2007. He also served on the Engineering Accreditation Commission from 1995–2000, was Chair of the Audit Committee from 2010–2012 and was a member of the Board of Directors from 2008–2012.
Thomas earned his Bachelor of Science of Engineering Physics from Cornell in 1963, and a Ph.D. in physics at the University of Illinois in 1968. He was a professor of physics at Wright State University in Dayton, OH, for 37 years, and then served as Dean of Graduate Studies for over 18 years, ending his tenure as Vice President of Research in 2012.
