We are proud to welcome the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) as our newest member society.
Founded in 1980, IFMA is the world’s largest international association for facility management professionals. With over 23,000 members in more than 100 countries with 142 chapters and 16 councils, the association advances the global facility management profession by providing exceptional services, products, resources and opportunities for all involved in the profession.
“Our member societies are essential to the existence of ABET, and we are pleased to have IFMA join our federation,” said ABET Executive Director and CEO Michael K. J. Milligan. “The field of facility management continues to grow, and IFMA will play a key role in providing assurance that facility management academic programs meet the quality standards necessary to prepare graduates to enter the global workforce.”
ABET serves the interests of its 35 member societies. These member societies set policy, develop strategy and conduct accreditation activities worldwide on behalf of their professions.
IFMA has joined ABET as a member society with lead responsibilities for facility management programs accredited by the Applied and Natural Science Accreditation Commission (ANSAC). As the lead society for facility management programs, IFMA will develop program-specific criteria for the discipline. The association will also be responsible for recruiting and selecting program evaluators to review facility management programs.
As a member society, IFMA will hold a seat on the ABET Applied and Natural Science Accreditation Commission and have representatives on the ABET Board of Delegates and relevant Area Delegations.
